The commercial made us buy it. Our family was totally influenced to purchase a 5-in-1 Ninja Foodi Grill with a built-in air fryer after seeing the company’s ads over and over again on Hulu. All those mouthwatering meals on screen appealed to us as foodies, and we decided to become Foodis, too.

And I’m so glad we did! The Ninja Foodi Grill is one of my favorite kitchen appliances ever — right up there with my Kitchen-Aid stand mixer and my microwave. We use our Ninja Foodi Grill nearly every day for air frying, grilling, toasting, reheating and so much more. (I love it so much more than the popular Instant Pot, which pretty much just takes us space in our pantry.)

We’ve devoted prime kitchen counter real estate to the Foodi Grill because we use it so much, whether it’s to make air fryer appetizers, like fried wontons or fried ravioli, or to make a main dish like these grilled pork kabobs or 5-minute grilled hotdogs and smoked bratwursts with homemade hot dog chili.
We use the Foodi Grill almost exclusively for reheating leftovers, like chicken tenders, fries, egg rolls and spring rolls, that we want to remain crispy, not soggy. We also use it to toast bread, bagels and buns and to make a batch of grilled cheese sandwiches. We’ve cooked bacon, burgers and sausage in it, too.

Which Ninja Foodi appliance should I buy?
Ninja Foodi Grill or Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker and Air Fryer?
The answer to this question depends on your family’s cooking preferences and also what other appliances you own.
Some questions to consider:
- Do you already have a pressure cooker?
- Do you already have an air fryer?
- Do you wish you have a larger air fryer?
- Do you enjoy grilled foods?
- Do you enjoy slow cooker meals?
- Do you enjoy slow cooker meals or grilled foods more?
If you already have a pressure cooker and an air fryer, I would choose the Ninja Foodi Grill. There’s no need to replace those two appliances with a multicooker. But the Foodi Grill will give you indoor grilling functionality that you don’t already have.
If you already have an Instant Pot, I would also say go with the Foodi Grill. No need to buy something with duplicate functionality.
If you only have an air fryer, then you might consider upgrading to either the Foodi Grill or the Foodi for the additional capacity and additional functions.
If you prefer grilled foods to slow-cooked foods, go with the Ninja Foodi Grill.
If you like slow cooker foods more, get the Ninja Foodi Pressure Cooker and Air Fryer combo.
I wouldn’t let owning an air fryer preclude you from buying one of the multicookers. I love the added functionality and capacity our Ninja Foodi Grill provides.
When we upgraded, we kept out older, small air fryer. I have used it occasionally to cook fries when we’ve been grilling something in the Ninja Foodi Grill.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ninja Foodi Grill worth it?
For our family, the Ninja Foodi Grill has definitely been worth what we paid for it. We use it daily — sometimes multiple times a day.
We cook a lot at home and enjoy grilling year-round. The Ninja Foodi Grill gives us the option of grilling indoors during any type of weather.
We also enjoy the multipurpose cooker aspect of the Foodi Grill. We had a smaller air fryer before, but we didn’t use it nearly as much as we do the Foodi Grill. I’ve found that the Ninja Foodi Grill air crisps more quickly and with better results than other air fryers I have used. Fried foods really do get crisp and crunchy — and in less time.
Which Ninja Foodi Grill is the best?
We have been really pleased with the 5-in-One Foodi Grill with integrated probe. If you have a larger family and need to be able to grill more than four steaks at once or larger cuts of meat, you may want to consider the Ninja Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1 Grill.
The 6-In-1 has an additional broiling function not available on earlier models.
Does the Ninja Foodi Grill smoke?
I honestly haven’t noticed any smoking when we’ve used the Ninja Foodi Grill.
You do need to be careful when using oil on the grill; always choose an oil with a higher smoke point. You shouldn’t use olive oil on the Ninja Foodi grill for this reason.
I would also avoid marinades with a high sugar content. They can char and burn easily under any grilling conditions. Indoors, that could cause smoke.
The Foodi Grill has a grease shield and air circulator that eliminates most smoke generated by indoor grilling.
Does the Ninja Foodi Grill toast?
While not technically a cooking function of the Ninja Foodi Grill, we use ours all the time to toast bread, buns and bagels and to make grilled cheese sandwiches.
We use either the grill function (usually set to medium) or the Air Crisp function (at 350 degrees or 375 degrees) for toasting. When using the Air Crisp function, you may need to flip the bread to toast evenly on both sides. I also recommend checking every few minutes to make sure your bread doesn’t get too brown — unless you like it that way.
Is the Ninja Foodi Grill easy to clean?
Yes, the Ninja Foodi Grill is easy to clean. The ceramic-coated air fryer basket, grill grate and cooking pot are all removable and dishwasher safe. You can also handwash them.
The cooker comes with a cleaning brush and scraper tool. You can also remove and wash the grease splatter shield.
What is the best Ninja Foodi Grill cookbook?
I obviously haven’t tried them all. But when purchased our Ninja Foodi Grill, we also bought The Official Ninja Foodi Grill Cookbook for Beginners. It was a great primer, with lots of easy, accessible and delicious recipes. That cookbook, along with the freebie that comes in the box with the Grill, helped me to familiarize myself with the cooker and learn how to use it.
What is the difference between the Ninja®Foodi™ 5-in-1 Indoor Grill and Ninja®Foodi™Smart XL 6-in-1 Indoor Grill?
The cookers are very similar, in that they are able to grill, air crisp, bake, roast, dehydrate and dehydrate food.
The Ninja Foodi Smart XL 6-in-1 Grill has a sixth function — broiling. It also has a larger grill surface than the 5-in-1. The XL can cook six steaks at once, while the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Grill can cook four.
The XL 6-in-1 has a 4-quart cooking pot for roasting, while the 5-in-1 has a 6-quart cooking pot for roasting.
Some versions of the 5-in-1 Grill (like ours) have an integrated thermometer probe, while others do not. The XL 6-in-1 Grill comes standard with an integrated smart thermometer to continuously monitor meat temperatures.
Both Foodi grills have a 4-quart air fryer.
