ZOE HENRY, MY GRANDDAUGHTER CALLED ME AT 3:00 THIS MORNING SCREAMING AND HOWLING. I COULDN’T UNDERSTAND HER AT FIRST WHEN SHE WAS SAYING, AND SHE SAID, SOMEBODY SHOT MY MOM. SO I JUMPED IN MY CAR, CAME DOWN HERE. FAMILY TELLS 12 NEWS SOMEONE SHOT LASHONDA SHUMPERT IN THE DOORSTEP TO HER OWN HOME WHILE SHE WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HER DAUGHTER. BUT TO MY KNOWLEDGE, SHE WAS ON THE PORCH AND SOMEBODY KNOCKED ON THE DOOR. I THINK SOMEBODY KNOCKED AT THE DOOR AND SHE OPENED IT. THEY JUST SHOT HER. WE HAVE NO IDEA. YOU KNOW, SHE SHE’S A MOM. SHE’S A GRANDMOTHER. SHE DOESN’T GO ANYWHERE. SHE DON’T BOTHER ANYBODY. SO WE DON’T KNOW THE 47 YEAR OLD WAS THE MOTHER TO SIX CHILDREN AND A GRANDMOTHER TO 18. MILWAUKEE POLICE ON THE SCENE AROUND 330 TUESDAY MORNING, CANVASING FOR EVIDENCE. THEY WON’T SAY WHAT MAY HAVE BEEN THE MOTIVE FOR THE SHOOTING. EMERGENCY RESPONDERS TRIED TO SAVE HER, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE WHEN 12 NEWS ARRIVED ON THE SCENE, THERE WERE CARS LINED UP ON THE STREET OVER HERE, PEOPLE STANDING OUTSIDE THEIR CARS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. BUT ALSO TO REMEMBER AND HONOR THIS WOMAN AND HER FAMILY, HER FATHER SAYS SHE LOVED BEING A GRANDMOTHER. OH, SHE WAS FUN. SHE COULD SING, SHE COULD SING. SHE WAS SHE WAS A FUN. SHE WAS A FUN DAUGHTER. THAT’S MY OLDEST BABY. SHE WAS SHE WAS REALLY FUNNY. HER FAMILY SAYS SOME OF HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WERE IN THE HOME AT THE TIME OF THE SHOOTING IN MILWAUKEE. A woman was shot and killed at the front door of her home in Milwaukee Tuesday morning. Milwaukee police say it happened just before 3:30 a.m. near 42nd Street and Florist Avenue, just West of Havenwoods State Forest near Sherman Boulevard. The victim's family identified her as 47-year-old LaShanda Shumpert."My granddaughter called me at 3:00 this morning, screaming and all. And I could understand what she was saying. And she did. Somebody shot my mom. So I didn't come to my car, came down here," said Maeleen Dilworth-Jordan, Shumpert's mother.Family told WISN 12 News Shumpert was on the phone with her daughter when she was shot."But to my knowledge, she was on the porch. Somebody knocked at the door. I think she opened the door and got shot. And we have no idea. You know, she's a mom. She's a grandmother. She doesn't go nowhere, she doesn't bother anybody. So we don't know," Dilworth-Jordan said.The 47-year-old was the mother to six and grandmother to 18. Milwaukee police arrived on the scene around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to canvas for evidence. Emergency responders tried to save her life, but it was too late. Shumpert's father said she loved being a grandmother."Oh, she was fun. She could say she could sing. She was a fun daughter. She was my oldest baby. She was really fun," said Waymon Shumpert, the victim's father.Shumpert's family added some of her children and grandchildren were home at the time of the shooting.
