I have never liked steak, until now. Cauliflower steaks are genius! You don’t have to cut individual florets, you just slice the entire head, from top to bottom, forming steaks. The steaks look like fans and are so pretty to serve. Roasting the cauliflower brings out the best flavor and the simple ginger-soysauce is amazing.

We served our Cauliflower Steaks with a cold soba noodle salad for dinner.Cauliflower Steaks are a great side dish to any meal…or become addicted like me and eat them just because you can. Sometimes I make them for lunch to eat all by themselves.I’m a grown up so if I only want to eat cauliflower for lunch, I can:)

And if you are intimidated by Asian cooking, don’t be scared. Jaden’s recipes are easy to follow and she has a section in the back of the book that explains and describes the ingredients in the book. The recipes are easy enough to make on a weeknight, but good enough to serve when you entertain! The book is also filled with beautiful photos! You will for sure be craving Asian food after flipping through the book.

Congratulations Jaden on a fabulous cookbook! Your Cauliflower Steaks are a regular in our house now. We can’t get enough! We are looking forward to trying all of the recipes in Healthy Asian Favorites. I’m sure they will all be favorites:)

FAQs

What pairs well with cauliflower steaks? ›

Cauliflower Steak Serving Suggestions

Wheat berries, farro, quinoa, or couscous would all work well here. A few roasted chickpeas would be a nice garnish too!

Why do you soak cauliflower before cooking? ›

If you're planning to roast the cauliflower whole or slice it into steaks, slice off the thick stem at the base. Drop the whole cauliflower head upside-down into cool, salted water. Let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes to remove dirt, residue and bugs.

Why is cauliflower steak called steak? ›

What Is Cauliflower Steak? The term cauliflower “steak” refers to thick cross-sections from a head of cauliflower, roasted intact, and served as a main dish or side dish. While the cauliflower steak is in no way related to the popular meat entrée, the hearty vegetable can be grilled or sautéed like a traditional steak.

How do you cut cauliflower like steak? ›

Remove the outer green leaves from the cauliflower base. Using a sharp chef knife, cut the stem away from the cauliflower. Place the cauliflower stem side down on the cutting board and carefully make one cut through the center of the cauliflower to divide it in half. Cut each half into slices, about 3/4-inch thick.

What protein pairs well with cauliflower? ›

Protein and Other

Anchovy, beef, blue cheese, buffalo mozzarella, butter, cheddar cheese, chickpeas, curry, farro, feta cheese, gruyère cheese, parmesan cheese, pork, quinoa, rice, saffron, tahini, tofu, turkey, turmeric, yoghurt.

What does vinegar do to cauliflower? ›

Adding vinegar to the cooking water when cooking cauliflower is a common technique that can help to reduce the strong sulfur smell that cauliflower can sometimes give off while cooking. The vinegar can help to neutralize the sulfur compounds in the cauliflower, resulting in a milder aroma and flavor.

Why do you put lemon juice in cauliflower? ›

Cauliflower contains some phytonutrients, these nutrients may react with iron cookware and gives the cauliflower a brownish color. To prevent this add some lemon juice to the cauliflower or to the water in which it is blanched.

What happens when you add lemon juice to water when cooking cauliflower? ›

Keep The Cauliflower White. The pigments in white vegetables like cauliflower and onions will stay white with the addition of an acid such as lemon juice to the cooking water (as long as they are not overcooked).

Which way do you cut cauliflower to make cauliflower steaks? ›

Slice straight down the middle from top to bottom like you're cutting into a loaf of bread. Holding the round part of one half of the cauliflower head, slice a 1-inch thick slice from the cut end. Try to keep the steak from falling over too hard onto the cutting board to keep the florets intact.

Why is my cauliflower crumbly? ›

Overcooking It

It should cook in the microwave for 3-4 minutes and when you're heating it up on a pan it should be about 2-3 minutes. Keeping riced cauliflower on a pan longer than that will start make it turn too crumbly and wreck the texture.

Why is my cauliflower separating? ›

Once the "curds" begin to separate, the head is over mature. I'm fairly certain that although you think the weather has been mild, your cauliflower was ready to bolt - triggered either by the longer days of early summer or the heat. You may find that fall grown plants outperform spring plants in your location.

Why is cauliflower so crumbly? ›

Cauliflower appears hardy but can crumble easily without the proper cutting techniques. Good cauliflower is firm, compact, and has tightly-closed florets. Cauliflower perishes quickly, so it's best kept dry and consumed within a few days of purchase.
