ACTOR BARRY LIVINGSTON
1950-1964 Career
He began his career as a young artist in the late 1950s. He credits his film debut with a job he won as one of Paul Newman’s children in the film Rally ‘Round the Flag, Boys !(1958) with his more established brother Stanley who, by then, was functioning as an on-screen character.
He was dropped from the film when he was informed that he expected to get glasses to effectively treat his astigmatism.His first expert screen appearance was in a small uncredited job in the 1961 film The Errand Boy, followed by jobs as local kid ‘Barry’ in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, on The Dick Van Dyke Show and (as ‘Arnold Mooney’, child of investor Theodore J. Mooney portrayed by Gale Gordon) on The Lucy Show.In 1963, he joined the cast of the ABC sitcom My Three Sons as next-door neighbor Ernie Thompson.
His more experienced brother, Stanley Livingston, was by then a usual arrangement as Chip Douglas.After Tim Considine left the arrangement two years after the fact, Livingston joined the cast forever (his character was received into the family, keeping the show’s title unblemished) and remained with the arrangement until came to an end in 1972. In 1964, at age ten, he appeared in the ABC therapeutic psychiatry dramatization Breaking Point in the scene titled “A Land More Cruel.”
1974 – 2016 Career
After the My Three Sons arrangement ended in 1972, Livingston landed jobs in room 222 and on the streets of San Francisco.Barry has also appeared in some stage shows.One, in particular, was that of Linus in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” which was off Broadway in New York in 1971.
Throughout the 1980s, he continued to work consistently in both motion pictures, made-for-TV movies, and endless television, including Police Woman, Sidewinder 1, Simon and Simon, and First and Ten.He also appeared nationwide in plays, including Broadway and off-Broadway.In 1974 he appeared in Sons and Daughters, a short-lived CBS arrangement.
In 2007, he appeared in Zodiac.He had a stellar job in the final approach to the Hallmark Channel movie.He also appeared in You Don’T Mess with the Zohan (2008), The Social Network (2010), Horrible Bosses (2011) and War Dogs (2016).
In October 2011, Barry Livingston released his story-filled memoir collection, The Importance of Being Ernie (Citadel Press) – detailing his profession from My Three Sons to Mad Men and the past.Lately he has appeared on television in scenes from Mad Men, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Two and a Half Men and Anger Management.
Barry Livingston is the main character in My Three Sons who currently has a working Screen Actors Guild Card.
