Atlanta transferred Acuna (knee) to the 60-day injured list Sunday.
The 26-year-old has already undergone season-ending surgery to repair the torn ACL in his left knee, and it was only a matter of time before he was moved to the 60-day IL to free up a spot on the 40-man roster. Acuna will have nearly 10 months of recovery and rehab before Opening Day in 2025, so there's a chance he's ready for the start of next season.

Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Contract officially selected

Waldrep had his contract selected from Triple-A Gwinnett ahead of his start Sunday against the Nationals.
The 22-year-old was previously announced as the starter for Sunday's series finale in Washington, and he's now officially been added to the MLB roster. Waldrep was recently promoted to Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi and will make his big-league debut with just two career games under his belt at Triple-A. He's pitched well between the two affiliates this season with a 3.09 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 59:18 K:BB across 55.1 innings.

The Nationals got to Morton early Saturday, scoring three runs in the first two innings. The 40-year-old Morton has had a tough time with Washington this year, yielding 12 earned runs over 10.2 innings in two starts against the Nats. His ERA now sits at 4.12 on the season with a 1.30 WHIP and 68:28 K:BB across 67.2 innings. Morton will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home versus Tampa Bay.

With Jimmy Herget (shoulder) headed for the injured list, Hernandez will rejoin Atlanta's bullpen to replenish the team's bullpen depth. The 27-year-old righty appeared in two games during his first big-league stint earlier in the year, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out one batter and walking one. He boasts a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 frames at Triple-A and figures to be used in middle relief while in Atlanta.

Atlanta placed Herget on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right shoulder inflammation.
Herget struck out two batters and gave up a solo home run during his most recent outing Wednesday, and he appears to have come away from the game with a shoulder injury. He'll remain sidelined until at least June 21, and Daysbel Hernandez will come up from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill Herget's spot in the bullpen.

Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Making MLB debut Sunday

Atlanta will call up Waldrep from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday to start against the Nationals, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Waldrep was promoted to Gwinnett last week after posting a 2.92 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 49.1 innings at Double-A Mississippi, and he'll now get the call to Atlanta after striking out 11 batters in six innings during his Triple-A debut. It's possible the 22-year-old right-hander is sent back to Gwinnett following his debut Sunday, though an impressive outing could give him another opportunity to lock down the fifth spot in Atlatna's rotation. The big club has struggled to find consistency at the back end of the rotation since losing Spencer Strider (elbow) for the season.

It was a strong bounce-back effort from Sale after he surrendered eight runs against Oakland in his last start. However, Atlanta couldn't get on the board until the eighth inning in an eventual 2-1 defeat. Sale now has eight or more strikeouts in six of his last seven outings. His ERA sits at 3.01 with a 0.94 WHIP and 92:11 K:BB across 12 starts (74.2 innings) this year. Sale's currently in line for a road matchup with the Orioles in his next outing.

Braves' Ronald Acuna: Undergoes ACL surgery

Acuna underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the torn ACL in his left knee, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The reigning NL MVP had already been ruled out for the season, but Acuna will now be able to begin rehabbing from the injury he suffered May 26. The 26-year-old underwent ACL surgery on his right knee in 2021, so he's familiar with the process. Acuna's injury that year happened in mid-July, not late May, and the difference could allow him to be ready for Opening Day in 2025.
