CLASS 7A BOYS’ SEMIFINALS
Oak Mountain 3, Huntsville 0
HUNTSVILLE – Oak Mountain moved one match closer to an undefeated season Thursday night posting a 3-0 victory over hometown favorite Huntsville High School in the Class 7A semifinals as the AHSAA 2024 State Soccer Championships concluded semifinal play.
The Eagles (28-0-1) advanced to Saturday’s state finals to face Auburn. The Tigers downed Fairhope 2-0 in the other boys’ semifinal played at Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex at John Hunt Park in the AHSAA 2024 State Soccer Championships Class 7A girls’ semifinals.
The Eagles of Coach David DiPiazzo reached the semifinals last season losing to the Crimson Panthers 1-0 in the semifinals.
Oak Mountain, which has seven state boys’ soccer championship trophies in its trophy case already, rebounded this season to not only win 28 of 29 matches, the Eagles have also climbed the national polls and are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation for high school soccer teams that compete in the spring.
The only ranking they have been seeking, however, is to win the school’s eighth state title in 2024.
Junior Luke Jovanovich and senior Nate Joiner did their part in the win over Huntsville (14-8-4). Joiner scored the first goal of the semifinal match at 18:42 in the first half as Oak Mountain took a 1-0 lead into halftime. Jovanovich assisted Aidan Riley, who scored the first of two goals in the second half with a deep service in the box at 45:45. Aidan Riley notched the final goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in the match on a takeaway steal and shot.
Huntsville, coached by Babayele Sodade, managed just one shot on goal, which was foiled by Oak Mountain keeper
Alexander Chaidez-Cruz. Panthers keeper Harrison Shiner had five saves for Huntsville.
Oak Mountain’s last boys’ state title came in 2017 – the final title in a three-year consecutive run. Huntsville has not won a state title but finished runner-up to Daphne last season.
Finals for classes 1A/3A, 4A and 5A begin Friday. Finals for 6A and 7A will close out the 2024 state championships Saturday. All finals will be live streamed over the NFHS Network’s subscriber-based platform.

The Tigers (17-3-1), coached by Luke Ferguson, got a first-half goal from Julian Flores at 21:27 with Coan Park providing the assist. Park got the final goal with just over three minutes remaining with a corner kick to seal the shutout win.
